Why your data is stored in Australia
New Zealand is a market we serve from our Australian cell. We do not operate a New Zealand data region today, so for a New Zealand workspace your documents, records and files are stored in Australia, on Google Cloud in Sydney. We state that plainly rather than leaving it unsaid.
This is storage in Australia, disclosed openly. We would rather tell you exactly where your content sits than imply it stays closer to home than it does. Account details sit in Sydney alongside your content, and sign-in and payments run in the United States, through Google and Stripe.
New Zealand law, and your personal information
New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020 governs how we handle personal information for New Zealand customers, wherever we store it. It sets out the Information Privacy Principles, including a principle on disclosing personal information outside New Zealand. Where your personal information is handled outside New Zealand, including in Australia and the United States, we take care that it is protected to a comparable standard.
In handling what you put into our products, we act on your behalf: you are the agency responsible for the personal information, and we process it on your instructions.
What this means for you
- Your documents, records and files for a New Zealand workspace are stored in Australia, on Google Cloud in Sydney, and the few services that run elsewhere are named above.
- Where a service genuinely runs elsewhere, such as sign-in or card payments in the United States, we tell you plainly rather than leaving it in the fine print.
- Our team works from Australia and may access your workspace to support you or look after the service. Your content stays stored in Australia while they do.
